So, today was not a great day. Nothing bad in particular, just one of those days. Nothing really good either, come to think of it. That is until I got home and got to my patio. Not sure exactly why but when I manage to get my hands in the potting soil, life just gets so much better. The day melts away. There is not a single thing in the world that matters except the plant at hand. Time flies by and before I know it, afternoon turns to evening. I look up and realize I have made a bit of a mess, but that doesn't matter either. Heck! Cleaning up the mess is even relaxing. Tomorrow will come and it may be better. And it may be worse. Or it could even just be the same. But once again, none of that will matter when I get home to my patio.
Today was one of those rare glorious days. The sky was a perfect shade of bright blue. The clouds looked as if they had been painted into the perfect spots. And the temperature....divine! One of those spring days in the South that make me truly grateful I speak with a bit of a drawl. Breakfast at Crepe Myrtle Cafe followed by the usual roam around Blooming Colors. And yes, I had to buy a plant. Well, as usual I was forced by the beauty of the day to drive down to Lowe's to scour their clearance plants again. I actually found a few. They are gorgeous. (It will never cease to amaze me how anything less than perfect has to be sold at deep discount. I mean, a small bit of TLC and you have a beauty on your hands.)
Then y'all, guess what I got to do when I got home! I got to take advantage of the deliciously perfect weather and repot all those little plants I had bought over the past few weeks. Oh, did it ever feel good to get dirt back under my nails! And it was so much fun to be creative with the pots and supplies I already own. Finding ways to stretch that last bit of potting soil or use that rock I found off my patio to decorate with.....inexplicably incredible! My den now actually resembles a den again instead of an overstocked plant nursery. That just means that I have more room to put new plants now. And last but not least my day was topped off by a warm cup of herbal mint tea at Momma Mochas and a hot, relaxing bath at home with my cat lying beside the tub. My point you may ask...... I am truly blessed beyond belief. I have a job that lets me pay my bills and have play money for the weekends. On top of that I live in a wonderful town full of kind people. Today was amazing. Today was a rare blessing. I hope and pray that you are having a blessed day too. If there was some way I could bottle this feeling of absolute gratitude I would. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Admittedly, this is not my first blog. My first blog was RescriptingAt30.com. Unfortunately I kinda jumped into the deep end. It was a WordPress site hosted by BlueHost. Now do not get me wrong. Both companies are phenomenal. I got bogged down in which tool to use or how many comments I got, etc. But I forgot about one simple thing: writing. You actually have to write on a fairly consistent basis to have even a decent blog. (Yeah, I know, call me Captain Obvious.)
So if it gets so complicated so fast, why even bother starting another blog? Simple. I actually do enjoy writing, among other creative things. This is my space to write about all of it. The hope is that by keeping the website simple, I can feel a bit freer to create content and not let it turn into one more thing I have to do today. I think of this website as my sounding board of sorts. Now for the what. What keeps me going? Honestly, listening to the success of others. Hearing others succeed at what I want to do in life lets me know that it really is possible to achieve even the biggest of goals. Also I get the chance to learn about many other concepts and ideas. To me the key to getting the most out of listening is keying in on what interests you most. If it is gardening, like me, listen to gardening podcast. Audio books are great too. I manage to digest many more books that way. In case you were looking for a podcast to listen to: #AskGaryVee by Gary Vaynerchuck The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry The Portfolio Life by Jeff Goins This is Your Life by Michael Hyatt Chirs LoCurto 48 Days by Dan Miller In case you are considering running and have never in the whole of your life run, don't. Well, at least don't just keep going until the impact causes you to throw out on of your sacroiliac joints. It hurts! And unfortunately I speak from recent experience. Running is out. Walking, yes. Speed walking, walking with light weights on the legs, power walking, all forms of walking, yes. Running, no.
Now admittedly I really do have a bad back. Even had back surgery a few years ago. (Don't worry, it was a good thing in the end.) So, other people out there may have a much better time with running than I do now. I will not let this deter me from seeking out some form of exercise three times weekly that does not put me flat on my back for two days in a pain pill induced haze. Onward and upward......walking not running......but ever onward. Running. Did it today. Still trying to find that "runner's high". All I got was a cramp. But I still had a blast running and hanging out with Donna and her son Hunter! We both have a ways to go. We can and will do it! The air was crisp and cool. Spending time outdoors is always a win. We go at it again tomorrow! Today's stats: 1.66 miles in 28 minutes. So today is day one of working to the goal of completing a 5k. So very excited to start this new healthy lifestyle! Unfortunately it is colder than a well digger's butt. However, this will not deter us! Donna and I are going to be two running machines!
Tools: Warm flexible clothes, good running shoes, the "Couch to 5k" app, and music in the ear Accountability: Each other. We work together, so much easier to encourage each other.
