I know these things may not seem to go together, especially the clutter and contentment. But hang with me. The loss of one led to the hanging of the other and the realization of the third.
One of the benefits of working at the vet school that you will not find in any of the manuals is the CVM bulletin board. It is a digital email list where people sell all their unwanted stuff. And come graduation time, they sell a lot of good stuff. So I was able to purchase a nice set of black wire shelves for cheap. It turned out that was the solution I had been looking for to my extra room being so cluttered that I just quit looking at it. Despite having been to the chiropractor I decided to put up the shelves and organize that room Friday night. (Okay looking back, maybe I should have waited because an hour later my back reminded me that it has the power to bring down the house.) But that is not my point here. My point is that I found the floor in that room! And I found the curtains for my bedroom!
The next day I was able to get my curtains up! Amazing how much curtains change a room. Now I had a calming bedroom of blue curtains, comfy sheets, and plentiful plants. On top of all that wonderfulness I also had a usable extra room. I can actually get to my sewing machine again. That was when it hit me. Sitting in my room, I realized that I am truly happy. I am happier than I have been in years. Life is not perfect by any means, but I am happy. More importantly I am content. I have made a conscious effort to choose gratitude these past few weeks. Everything I read said that making that simple choice would lead to positive results. I just never thought that I would feel this content, this blessed. Simple actions and simple thought pattern changes (notice I did not say easy) have made all the difference.
